The Band

While the current lineup of the Olde News Band has been performing together since 2009, the origins of "Olde News" go back much further. Writing music together since the late 1960's, Bob Vining and Jim Krisniski have written and recorded several hundred originals over the past 30 years spanning several genres such as rock, country, and reggae. Their tireless work ethic, innate musicianship, and McCartney/Lennon-esque presence did not go unnoticed, and in the early 1980's the duo won a national song writing competition sponsored by KFC which resulted in country singer Brenda Lee recording a version of their winning song.

Continuing with their song writing efforts, Bob and Jim eventually wrote, recorded, and produced the 10-track album, "who ARE these guys?" under the aptly named moniker of Vykris. The album, released in 2000, features original material in the style of early Beatles showcasing minor chords, passing chords, glimmering D-chords, and 3-part harmonies. Interestingly enough, it was soon after the release of this album that the two started to branch out into playing in a band setting with other musicians.

Deciding to work on covers for a change, the band went through several changes in the lineup during the mid-2000's with only Bob and Jim remaining as the nucleus. Eventually Bob's son, Joe Vining, was brought onboard where he eventually settled in as the band's principal time keeper as drummer, and sound engineer. In July of 2009 the final puzzle piece was added with the addition of bassist, Chad Witko. With a rock solid rhythm section firmly established, Bob's vocals and Jim's guitar work has finally been given the platform to let them shine at their fullest.

If you've ever been to one of our shows, you know exactly what Bandoke is, but if you've yet to attend 'An Evening with Olde News (and Bandoke)' you don't know what you're missing out on!

Bandoke is your chance to get on stage in front of a live audience, under the bright lights, and be the rock star you've always wanted to be!

Are you a closet singer from your shower? Or perhaps you perform in your own band? Either way all are welcome and Bandoke is your chance to sing from a real stage with an accomplished live band backing you up! Forget singing to a bouncing ball in Karaoke or those "Rock Band" video games, this is a unique experience you won't soon forget.

So how does it all happen you ask? Well, you choose a song from our catalog (we provide lists during the show), sign up on our signup sheet and we call your name when you're ready! You can sing at anytime!

Are you afraid you won't remember the lyrics? We provide them for every song in our catalog as well as provide backing assistance to ease you along! Remember, it's all for fun.

So grab some friends, head on out to the next ONB show, and get on stage- we might just reward you with some nice ONB merchandise....say, a nice "I Sang with ONB" T-shirt!!!

Welcome to the official Olde News Band Blog!

4/20- Wow, what a month April 2011 has been for us in the band! Over the last few weeks we've scored 3 major gigs at some of the hottest venues in the Capital District and upper Hudson Valley, including Albany's Bayou Cafe and Hudson's Club Helsinki!

Along the way we've made some new fans, new connections, and had a blast the whole time through! Just as Jon Bon Jovi has famously sung: "I've seen a million faces, and I've rocked them all!" Well, in our case it was more like a few hundred faces, but it's been one hell of a ride nonetheless!

Graciously, the members in the band have been very thankful for all the support that ALL of our friends, family, and fans have given us. The last year has seen as many downs as ups (surgeries, illness, studio time, questions on venues, questions on song selection, band direction, etc.) However, this past month's support and rave reviews from fans and venue owners alike have given us a clue that we are truly zeroing in on our target zone- making the fans happy and having a good time along the way!

The rest of 2011 is shaping up to be a historic year for the band and we hope that everyone sticks around for the rest to come. And don't forget to keep an eye here to our blog for periodic updates and insight into ONB!
